The heiress (project 3 - part 2)
Working on a bigger format really helped me to loosen up and rediscover my love of painting/making bold marks. Though I can definitely use more practice with this relatively new medium, I felt confident enough to paint some new images for my untitled polar fox/zoo project. It seemed like the perfect way to look in a new way at the work I’d done so far and to play some more.
All of the images below have been painted on 70x50 cm Hahnemule bamboo paper with acrylic paints and details have been added with neocolour II crayons and luminance pencils.
Most of the inspiration had come from the work I’d been doing in my sketchbook (also see my previous post on this project). Seeing as I’d decided to center this narrative around a young woman, I figured it might be interesting to model the character after myself. This resulted in various self portraits which, funnily, each time looked very different and seemed to emphasize different aspects of myself. Another reason I chose to model the main character after myself is the fact that I would sometimes love to be daring enough to embrace a more adventurous way of life.
At the same time I also used collagraph printing to further explore this universe. All of these prints have been made using A4 sized milk carton plates and have been printed onto Snowden paper.
